Origin of Tea drinking
Benefits of tea drinking was first discovered by the Chinese Emperor Shennong in 2737 BC. Shennong was the God of agriculture and was believed to have an ox head with a human body.
It is said that the emperor Shennong was relaxing in his garden drinking hot water as he had always liked it to be. On a sudden gust of wind, some leaves in the bush nearby fell into to the water he was sipping. The water turned a fragrant yellow. He drank it and felt refreshed thereafter, and so the tea drinking history began.
Shennong, as agricultural god, was also the inventor of Chinese medicine. He discovered the five cereals as well as various herbals which could cure human diseases. Thus tea was used as medicine in the Han Dynasty. Moreover, Chinese doctors advocate drinking tea daily enhances human health.
In the Tang Dynasty, tea was the most popular drink in China. Tea was a beverage drunk for pleasure on social occasions Master poet-scholar Lu Yu wrote the first book on tea, Cha Jing (The Classic of Tea), explaining the preparation techniques and rituals associated with drinking tea. According to Cha Jing writing, around AD 760, tea drinking was widespread.
